STATE BRINGS SUIT CLAIMING ROUTES IN, NEAR WILDLANDS

In May 2004, the Utah notified the federal government of the state's intent to sue over six routes scattered across the state. Maps of the six routes are below. One of the routes, Black Dragon, goes through an area recommended for wilderness protection by conservationists, and all the rest (except Geothermal Road) border such areas. The maps can take some time to open. On some systems it works best to download the maps to your computer and then open them.

Atchee Ridge (Uinta County, SE portion of county)  Bert Avery Road (Wayne County SE of Hanksville)  Black Dragon/Hatt Ranch (Emery County in the San Rafael Swell)  Geothermal Road (Beaver County NE of Milford)  Lytle (LIttle) Ranch (Washington County W of St. George)   Pilot Mountain North (Box Elder County, W side of county) Pilot Mountain South.

On February 9, 2005, the state made good on its threat and sued the U.S. See the Salt Lake Tribune article of February 10, 2005, and read Utah's complaint.
