A Trip Through Salt Creek Canyon

Since Canyonlands National Park closed Salt Creek to vehicles in the late 1990s, a variety of plant and animal life has reclaimed this desert oasis.  San Juan County has sued the Park Service, seeking to re-open the creek to motor vehicles because, they argue, an old jeep trail that is largely in the streambed itself is a 'highway.'  These photos were taken on a backpack trip in October 2006 after a storm.
